Mr. Huzir Sulaiman

Checkpoint Theatre, Co-Founder & Joint Artistic Director

Mr. Huzir’s multidisciplinary creative practice spans three decades, ranging from creative consultancy for major companies and government agencies to critically acclaimed work in theatre and film, with a particular focus on training, education, and mentorship. An award-winning playwright and co-founder and Joint Artistic Director of Checkpoint Theatre in Singapore, he oversees the development of new work at the company. Most recently, an Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore’s University Scholars Programme, he has taught playwriting at many institutions, including Yale-NUS College and the School of the Arts. Huzir was educated at Princeton University, where he won the Bain-Swiggett Poetry Prize, and is a Yale World Fellow, having undergone Yale University’s highly selective public policy and leadership training fellowship programme.
