Early and Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) Mentoring Scheme at the Asian Women’s Leadership University College (AWLUC)

Early and Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) Mentoring Scheme

Most academics/ researchers are not supported by mentors. Any mentoring is usually sporadic and not in a regular manner. Mentoring and early support is especially necessary for Early and Mid-Career Researchers (EMCRs) who are academics/researchers in their first decade of academic employment after postgraduate studies.

The purpose of mentoring is to provide academics/researchers with a self-directed road map to guide them in their career AWLUC’s EMCR Mentoring Scheme is established to help meet this need, with established academics/researchers making themselves available to EMCR academics/researchers. The mentoring is done purely online and is open to both AWLUC staff and students and also staff and students of other organisations/universities. The mentors will be senior staff from AWLUC and other domestic and international organisations. The mentoring programme is free of charge and a labour of love for the staff involved.

Benefits to mentees may include:

  • Development of new research and leadership skills appropriate to the situation.

  • Identification of areas of professional development and growth and strategic career planning

  • Access to new research and industry and academic networks

  • Improved confidence in self
