AWLUC Welcomes Sarawakian Minister YB Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah and her entourage

On 20 September 2025, the Asian Women’s Leadership University College (AWLUC) had the privilege of welcoming YB Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK), together with her entourage, to our campus.

The AWLUC team was represented by Professor Sushila Chang, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Oh Phaik Cheng, Registrar; Prof. Khoo Hoon Eng, Co-founder of AWLUC; Ms. Jasmine Selvarani Emmanuel, Director of Curriculum Development and Community Partnerships; and Ms. Nasrul Hidayah, Administrative Support Assistant. Also present was Dato Seri Wong Su Hai, President of the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA), reflecting the important link between education, leadership development, and industry collaboration.

The visit included a warm tea-time gathering where meaningful discussions were held on women’s leadership, inclusivity, and the power of education to transform communities.

During the visit, Dato Sri Fatimah warmly highlighted the three Sarawak Foundation Scholarships recently approved by the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg. These scholarships will enable three Sarawakian women to pursue the Master of Arts in Leadership Development Programme at AWLUC — a significant investment in building the next generation of ethical, visionary, and high-calibre women leaders.

“This initiative not only demonstrates a commitment to inclusive leadership but also strengthens cross-regional collaboration in developing capable women leaders across Malaysia and beyond. Empowerment through education and leadership development is a cornerstone of our efforts,” she said.

She further stressed that as Sarawak advances its Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, the participation of women in governance, entrepreneurship, technology, and education will be crucial. She expressed her enthusiasm for future collaborations with AWLUC to open more doors for women to lead with impact.

At AWLUC, we are honoured to partner with the Sarawak Government and to engage with industry leaders in this important initiative. Together, we share a mission of empowering both men and women through education and leadership development — equipping them with the knowledge, values, and vision to build a stronger, more inclusive Malaysia and beyond.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah for her unwavering support of women’s leadership, and to Dato Seri Wong Su Hai and the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association for their commitment to advancing industry–education partnerships. AWLUC looks forward to continuing these collaborations in the spirit of building a brighter future for women across the nation.
